Random Country Generator

This random country generator spins a wheel of flags to pick a random country from the 173 countries and territories in the Travle game. Use it as a random country picker for homework, quizzes or travel ideas: every spin lands on a flag, and the result shows the country's capital, continent and population with a link to its full guide.

Spin the wheel of flags

Press Spin to pick a random country.

How to use the random country generator

1. Spin the wheel

Press Spin. The wheel turns for a few seconds and stops with one country under the pointer. You will hear a click for each flag that passes; press «Sound on» to mute it.

2. Read the result

Below the wheel you get the flag, the country name, its capital, its continent and its population (2025, World Bank), so it also works as a country flag generator and a capital city generator.

3. Load new countries

The flag wheel holds 12 countries at a time. Press «Load 12 new countries» to fill it with another random set from the list.

4. Open the country guide

«Explore» takes you to the country's guide: map, neighbours, languages, currency, climate, UNESCO sites and more.

5. Narrow it by continent

«Spin» plus the continent name opens a wheel with only that continent's countries.

Which countries the random country picker uses

The wheel uses the 173 countries and territories of the Travle game, grouped into continents with Natural Earth data. Some entries are territories rather than sovereign states, and Kosovo appears with the code XK. Open a continent to see its countries.

Eight things to do with a random country

Is the random country generator fair?

Equal odds

The countries on the wheel and the winner are chosen with your browser's secure random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues). Each country has about a 0.58% chance per spin, and all slices are the same size.

No repeats in a row

The country you just got is left out of the next spin, so pressing Spin twice always gives a new result.

The result is decided before the wheel stops

The animation only shows the pick. Stopping the page or changing the speed of your device does not change it.

Works on any screen

The wheel works on phones, tablets and shared classroom screens, with keyboard controls and reduced motion support.

Random country generator: frequently asked questions

How does the random country generator work?

The wheel shows 12 countries taken at random from the 173 countries and territories in the Travle game. When you press Spin, one of those 12 is picked with the same chance as the others, and the wheel stops on it.

Is every country equally likely?

Yes. The 12 countries on the wheel are a random sample of the whole list and the winner is a random pick among them, so every country has the same chance: about 0.58% per spin. The only exception is that the result you just got is not picked twice in a row.

What does «Load 12 new countries» do?

It replaces the countries on the wheel with 12 different ones taken at random from the list. Use it if you want to see other flags before spinning.

Can I spin only countries from one continent?

Yes. There is one wheel for each continent: Africa (50), Asia (46), Europe (39), North America (18), South America (13), Oceania (7). The links are below the wheel.

How many countries are on the wheel?

173, the same list used by the Travle game. It includes some territories, such as Greenland and Puerto Rico, and Kosovo with its user-assigned code XK, so it is not a count of UN member states.

Can I turn the sound off?

Yes. Press «Sound on» to switch it off. The wheel remembers your choice in this browser. If your device asks for reduced motion, the wheel shows the result without the spinning animation.

What can I do with the result?

Open the country guide to see its capital, map, neighbours, languages, currency and main sights, spin the wheel of its continent, or use it as the start country for a game of Travle.

Is the random country picker free?

Yes. It is free to use, works on phones and computers and needs no sign-up.
